ABOUT
ABOUT
To TARE is to zero out the container weight from its contents, and the chosen name of TARE ZERO after shedding genderism from their identity.
TARE is a Portland OR based trans artist and mystic from the Pennsylvania Appalachians. Their archive of mixed media work compounds, weaves, and expands through the practice of experimental quilting. Currently, they are researching the intersections between world spiritualities to inform the making of an illustrated ceramic quilt Tarot deck titled Tare 0.
TARE received their Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art Practice from Portland State University with an emphasis in queer identity and sustainable textiles. Additionally, they pursued coursework at PRATT Institute, California College of the Arts, School of Visual Arts, and Rhode Island School of Design for painting and illustration.
For Fall 2026, TARE was selected for Portland State University's MFA program; Art and Social Practice. They intend to continue building tools, like the Tare 0 deck, to aid self-led exploration of identity, healing, and connection to the whole.
